Alpine Strikers FC is pleased to announce that coach Ray Kellam is the winner of the club’s PCA (Positive Coaching Alliance) Double-Goal® Coach Award for 2017. Coach Ray was selected by the ASFC Board of Directors based on nominations from parents and a recommendation from the coaching leadership. Ray coaches the ASFC 07B White team (boys U10) and in the club’s Academy Program for U6 and U7 players. Coach Ray will be recognized with a cash award by the club, and will be sponsored by the club for a regional and national PCA Double Goal-Coach® Award.
A PCA Double-Goal Coach® strives to win while also pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports. Coach Ray received nine nominations from parents on his team – a few of the parent comments as follows:
On Building Mastery: “Ray teaches the kids to play and not be afraid to make mistakes. He will tell the kids you learn from making mistakes. Build on the experience and move onto the next play. He is doing a great job building the kids confidence and teaching them to be team players.”
On Filling Emotional Tanks: “Coach Ray is such a caring coach. He has a way with the players that makes them feel important and cared for. He awards a player at each game and practice with the “Hard Hat” that the player gets to sign. This builds team morale and is so good for the boys emotional wellness.”
On Honoring the Game: “Coach Ray is also a role model for the boys, teaching them by example, in the way that he interacts with the other coaches at practices or officials and opponents at games and tournaments. Always respectful, eager to partner, and persistently positive, he offers nothing but positive leadership for the boys to emulate.”
“Ray is an extremely positive coach and mentor,” said Gino Pucillo, ASFC Technical Director. “His enthusiasm and respect for the game of soccer sets such a positive example for the players, parents, and other coaches – he’s really deserving of this award.”
Alpine Strikers had two PCA Double-Goal Coach® award winners in 2015: Gino Pucillo (SF Bay Area Finalist) and Tulin Mendoza (National Finalist). From Kate Hamel, ASFC President: “The goal of Alpine Strikers FC is to provide an outstanding Club Soccer experience for our families, building positive character traits in our players that will help them succeed in the rest of their lives. We’re pleased to honor Coach Ray Kellem with this award and wish him the best of luck in the SF Bay Area and National PCA Award contests!”
